Pages and Navigation
In this article you will learn how to access the Pages and Edit panels as well as dive into the specific uses for each of the Pages and Edit sections. This article will also highlight the content elements and the importance of your website’s navigation.
Overview
Adding a new page will automatically update the navigation bar which is the bar running across your landing page with all of your main headers. Top-level pages will show up as main navigation items, child pages one level down will show up as dropdown items, and going down each consecutive level will mean there will be dropdown items stemming from dropdown items. It’s better not to add too many items under one page, as this can cause the menu to dip below the browser’s viewport.
Pages and Edit Panel
The left side of your screen contains two main components for controlling your website and these are the ‘Pages’ and ‘Edit’ panels.
Your ‘Pages’ panel will include:
A view of every page in your site and the ability to add, drag, rearrange, and organize them.
The gray ‘Home’ section in the very top of your ‘Pages’ panel contains these basic functions to setup your website the way you want: Edit, Add, Hide, Rename, Delete, and Duplicate.
The Edit feature allows you to make changes to the page you select
The Add feature allows you to add additional child pages
The Hide feature allows you to remove a page’s visibility from your navigation. This page will not deleted, but it will require a link for it to be accessed.
The Rename feature allows you to change the page name
The Delete feature allows you to permanently remove a page
The Duplicate feature allows you to copy a page entirely, including content and layout
Your ‘Edit’ panel will include:
Specific content elements you can drag and drop into designated sections within your Content Editing Workspace located in the main section to the right of your ‘Pages’ and ‘Edit’ panels.
These elements include: Text Editor, Gallery, Title, Slideshow, Tabbed, Moving Text, Video, HTML, Contact Form, Calendar, Button, Picture, and Doc List.
Each of these features listed function exactly the way they are listed. For example, if you drag the ‘text editor’ icon over to your Content Editing Workspace you will see a text box where you can add your own text. If you drag the ‘video’ icon over you will be able to upload a video into that space.
Underneath this section you will see an ‘Advanced’ section that contains more in depth content elements
These elements include:
Banner
Announcement
Staff Directory
Component
The last section in the ‘Edit’ panel is a grey section known as your ‘Content Clipboard’. Here, you are able to drag and drop content or find elements that you have copied. You can then drag those elements into your Content Editing Workspace.
Please note that if you have a page that is not quite ready for the public to view, you can unpublish that page which automatically hides it and takes it off of your website. You can do this by clicking the page you wish to unpublish, clicking the cogwheel next to that page, staying in the general section under page properties, and moving the toggle switch over to grey to indicate you would like that page to be unpublished. Hit ‘save’ to make sure your new changes reflect accurately on your website!
