School settings

The school settings page includes setup for Facebook, Twitter and attendance alerts.

Before CataputConnect can post messages to social media, it needs access codes for Facebook and Twitter.

How to get there

  1. Sign in using a Site or District Communications Team account.

  2. If you are on the Site Communications Team, skip to the next step. If you are on the District Communication Team, go to a specific site first. From the district dashboard, choose View All Sites > site name.

  3. From the Site Dashboard, choose Settings.

Facebook

  1. Choose Get my Access Token.

  2. In the new window, log in with your Facebook account. (Your account must have access to post to the school page.)

  3. If Facebook asks to turn on “Apps, websites, and games,” choose Turn On.

  4. Facebook asks if you want to continue as you. Choose Continue as [your name].

  5. Select your school page, then choose Next.

  6. Leave all settings turned on, and choose Done.

  7. Choose OK.

  8. After a moment the Facebook window closes, and the Facebook access details are automatically filled out. If you are finished with school settings, choose Save (bottom of page).

Twitter

  1. Choose Get Twitter Token.

  2. In the new window, fill in your school Twitter Username or email and Password.

  3. Choose Authorize app.

  4. After a moment the Twitter window closes, and the Twitter access details are automatically filled out. If you are finished with school settings, choose Save (bottom of page).

Attendance alert message

If your school sends attendance alerts, you can edit the contents of the message. The messages can include four special words surrounded by double dollar signs (“$$”). For example, $$STUDENTNAME$$ becomes “Samuel Smith” in the actual message sent to Samuel’s contact. The four special words are:

  • $$STUDENTNAME$$

  • $$ATTENDANCE$$

  • $$PERIOD$$

  • $$TEACHER$$

The attendance alerts are sent to the student’s contact (parent/guardian) not to the actual student.

For reference, the original messages are below.

Email subject

Attendance Alert

Email message

Hello $$STUDENTNAME$$,

You have been marked as $$ATTENDANCE$$ for period $$PERIOD$$ by $$TEACHER$$.

Thank you.

Text message

$$STUDENTNAME$$ has been marked as $$ATTENDANCE$$ for $$PERIOD$$ by $$TEACHER$$.

Attendance alert schedule

You can specify when to send attendance alerts for each period and whether to send them by email or text. The number of periods comes from the student information system import.
