Cloud Based Software
Catapult CMS is an online software, so you will be using a web browser to access it, just like a normal web page. To access catapult, type in www.catapultcms.com into the location bar of your web browser. The page will load the login screen for the catapult software.
User Names
The user name is normally your email address, and a generic password will be provided. The first time you log in to catapult, you are required to change your password and provide contact information. This information is only required so that other Catapult users can contact you to get access to a website that you currently have checked out.
The Dashboard
You’ll be taken to the administration home screen so that you can choose which of your websites you would like to access. Administrators are always directed to this screen, even if they only have access to a single website, so that they can use the administrative tools.
Manage Websites
Once you've selected a website and opened it, you will see the catapult Interface. Using the tools available in this interface, you’ll be able to control your website’s structure and content.
Pages and Edit Panel
The left panel contains tools for controlling your website as a whole, this includes your Page Structure, which will be used to build the tabs at the top of each page, as well as the other forms of navigation that are found on your website.
The right side of the screen is the Content Editing Workspace. Once a page is opened, it appears in this panel so that you can edit its content.
Once you have a page open, the tools for controlling that page become available. Page Title allows you to change the currently open page’s name. Page properties allows you to define template, navigation and publishing properties. Page History allows you to return the page to the state of the last time the page was saved. Hide page removes the page from the navigation, this will make it so that the page will only be accessible through a direct link. Save Page saves the changes that have been made on a page. Close Page Closes the Page. Preview gives you a quick view of what the live page will look like, while Publish will upload the changes you've made to the Internet.
The Content Elements that can be added to each page are in the left panel, They can be dragged and dropped to a content area in the page, or copied and pasted between pages. There are a number of different content elements available, which allows you to add any type of content, to any page in your website.
The “Edit profile” button is located on the left side of this bar at the top of the interface. This allows you to edit the login, password, name, and contact phone number associated with your account. Displayed in the center of this top bar is both the name of the website and the name of the current page you are editing. On the right is a link to the help videos and the “Logout” button which releases control of your website so that someone else can check it out to make changes of their own.
Lets go through a practical example of how these tools work. Lets say that I want to update the welcome message on my schools home page. I navigate to www.catapultcms.com (which you may want to bookmark to make returning easy) I type in my user name and password. Once catapult has finished loading my website I open the home page, since that's the page that I want to edit. I then open the content element that has the old message on it and replace it with my new message. Once I'm finished I save my changes and hit the “Publish Website” button. Within a few seconds it’s finished uploading and the new welcome message is online for the public to see. There’s no need to submit a request for approval to a web tsar, and best of all, you can do it yourself from work, home or your local Starbucks.
