CatapultConnect offers many methods to share your message with the right people.
You can reduce your starting contact list by building a filter filter your contacts based on criteria like language, class period, etc.
You can increase your contact list by adding add custom recipients from a spreadsheet.
You can preview recipients for a list of names and communication methods. From the preview you can manually remove contacts one by one.
To see how many contacts you have selected, look at the number on the left side of the page (outlined in red below). This number changes as you filter or import choose custom contacts.

Your starting contact list depends on your responsibility within the organization (detailed below). Use filters to reduce who you send a message to.

Staff/Teacher
If you sign in as staff/teacher, you can contact all your student’s parents/guardians.
You can narrow your contact list by filtering for school (if you teach a multiple schools), period, language of the recipient, grade, zip code, and bus routes.
Site Communication Team
If you sign in as a member of the site communication team, you can contact the whole school.
You can narrow your contact list within a school using the same filters that staff/teachers have, plus filter by guardian/job title (such as teacher, classified staff, student contact, etc.) or individual teachers.
District Communication Team
If you sign in as a member of the district communication team, you can contact the entire district.
You can narrow your contact list by filtering for school, guardian/job titles, languages, grades, zip codes, and bus routes. Note: since periods often differ from school to school, you are not able to filter by period at the district level. If you need to filter by period within a school, choose Back twice to return to the district dashboard, then choose View All Sites > a specific school > Send Message.
Saved filters
If you often send to a particular filtered group, choose Save Current Filter (to the right of the “Build Filter” heading). To access a previously saved filter choose Saved Filters.

Saving a filter does not save a list of specific people, rather a set of criteria. If a new student joins your class, they automatically appear in your list of recipients as long as they match your criteria. |
Custom recipients
You can import your own list of contacts or use a list that someone else at your site/district office has shared with you.
Import your own list
Create a spreadsheet (in Excel or Google Sheets) with four columns: Name, Email, Phone, Language.
Enter the contacts you need in the rows below.
Select and copy your information.
Return to the recipients page in CatapultConnect
Choose Import Recipients.
Under Name Your New List describe the list you are importing so you recognize it later.
In the text area under “Paste from Excel,” paste the information you copied in step 3 above. Avoid editing the text after you paste it (even though it might look as pretty as it did in your spreadsheet).
Choose Save.
Review the message about your upload then choose Close. If you selected the headers in step 3 above, it might include a message about omitting line 1.
If you choose the Imported Lists drop down, you’ll see a check mark next to the list you just imported. In the future you can reuse the list by selecting it here.
Pasting from Excel or Google Sheets is a simple method to import additional contacts. But if you are more tech-savvy and work with CSV files, there is an option for a .CSV import as well.
Manage and share lists
Choose Manage Imports
Review the lists available. You can see any lists you imported in the past. If other people have shared lists with you, you can see them here too.
Delete lists
If you want to remove an old list, choose the checkbox to the left of the list and then choose Delete List.
Share your lists with others
If you want to share a list with others at your site/school, choose Public. If you work at the district level you can mark a list as public for an entire district. If you decide to no long share a list, choose Private only.
Load a lists from someone else
If you want to use a list someone else shared with you, you can select it here and then choose Load. Alternatively, you can select the same list on the main page, from the Imported Lists drop down.
Preview recipients and manually edit
Choose Preview recipients (bottom of page) to see exactly who you are sending to.

Statistics table
The top portion of Preview Recipients calculates the number of contacts for each communication method.
The Recipients column (green) counts how many can receive your message via phone call, email, text, etc.
The Opted Out column (yellow) counts any contacts who chose to stop receiving communications via CatapultConnect. Contacts may choose to opt out of a particular communication method or all communication.
The Invalid column (red) counts any contacts without a particular means of communication. In the example above, two (2) recipients do not have a valid email in the system.
Search recipients
The center portion of Preview Recipients lets you search. You can search by the contact’s name, email, or phone number. You can even search by language or your imported list name.

List of contacts
The lower portion of Preview Recipients shows each contact by name and their means of communication. If a contact does not have a valid email, text, or phone number you can see those marked in red.
If you hover over a contact’s name it shows the language of that contact. For email and phone number hover over the respective icons.
Manually remove contacts
Choose the “x” next to a persons name to remove them from your recipient list (see red outline 1 below).
If you accidentally remove someone, choose the circular arrows to restore them again (see red outline 2 below).

Choose Next (large green button at the bottom)
Confirm the recipient numbers look right
Choose Next
Now you are ready for step 3 of sending your message.
